Intravenous Drug Use (IDU) is known to be a major risk for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection. Drug use is also responsible for about 60% of hepatitis C cases [1.
IDU can also put the user's partner at higher risk to contract HIV/AIDS.
The percentage of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) cases among women in the United States has more than tripled, from 7% in 1985 to 23% in 1998 [2. Close to two-thirds of the reported female AIDS cases have been found among African-Americans women and 37% of these cases were contracted heterosexually.

Detainment of Anti US Slavery Advocate Postponed for Hearing

OCE's recommended 3/11/05 detainment of anti-slavery activist, Marianne LaBrecque, has been postponed pending a 4/5/05 hearing of defendant's contesting of findings.
The judge also said that it was unfair to give the defendant such little time to make arrangements to prepare to undergo 60 days of "inpatient hospitalization."
Detainment would be as a pretrial detainee at Connecticut Valley Hospital, Connecticut's facility for the "criminally insane." Ct Superior Court's Office of Court Evaluation's conclusion is that the defendant "demonstrated what appeared to be a complex delusional system regarding 'modern-day slavery, human trafficking, abductions and organized crime'... Her preoccupation with modern-day slavery and the abduction of her fianc?e, and her propensity to focus on these issues in a tangential, circumstantial manner, impairs her capacity to represent herself, to work collaboratively with an attorney, to follow testimony, and to effectively participate...

Column Goes Halfway Over the Hill with Humor

Los Angeles, CA (ContentDesk) June 21, 2004 -- When a close friend celebrated her 50th. birthday by scheduling Botox treatments, Jena Ball was bemused.
When her mother complained about all the junk mail trying to sell her burial plots, electric wheelchairs, and hearing aids, she laughed.
Then a cashier at the local deli gave her a senior discount 15 years too early and she realized that old age stereotyping was getting out of hand."Some major debunking needed to be done," says Ball, "and I decided I was the one to do it."The result was "Halfway Over the Hill," a humorous, 600-word column that has been running in Southern California papers for six months, and is now available nationwide. From the start, the column has been a hit with readers who like Ball's amusing approach to the topic of aging."I really, really like your column," says Valerie Haecky of Santa Cruz.

"It offers a wonderful shift in perspective.""Thank you for your column," writes Jane Weissman...

The APSA Process In Nitrogen Generataors

Some of the new-generation nitrogen generators use the APSA process to generate nitrogen. This APSA process relies on the fractionated distillation of air at very low (cryogenic) temperatures, and in only one column. In other words, APSA nitrogen generators are nitrogen generators that use cryogenic distillation of air to generate nitrogen.

After the air is being compressed, it is purified in the nitrogen generator, so that the cryogenic operation runs smoothly. The air is being...
