AIDS 101- What You Absolutely Need to Know
IntroductionDue both to the stigma and the awareness program attached with it, now AIDS has become a common household term. There are very less people who actually know that the exact word is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, AIDS in short. Because of the morbidity and mortality attached and also because of the ignorance about it there are lots and lots of myths against this deadly disease. This alone shows the anxiety and concern of the general mass.HistoryThe virus for this disease is thought to have transmitted from simian monkeys in the forests of Africa to humans and from there it traveled to USA and different countries. It was brewing in the bodies till in 1981 in USA the Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) recognized it for the first time and reported that there was an unexplained occurrence of an unusual pneumonia in a few homosexuals.
Soon the disease was to be found in intravenous drug users. But it was only in 1983 that the causative virus was isolated...

Tai Chi Presentation at 15th International AIDS Conference, Bankok
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Instructor Nicola Briggs of the Tai Chi School of Westchester in Bronxville New York upon the acceptance
of her abstract:
"The use of Tai Chi as a therapeutic modality to improve the quality of life in persons living with AIDS and substance abuse" to be presented at the 15th International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, Thailand July 12, 2004. Ms. Briggs will be personally presenting her abstract in Bangkok, Thailand with assistant instructors Dr. James Horne and Robert Kaczmarek. Tai Chi, as a health system, should be explored and researched as a modality that may benefit individuals having serious health concerns whereas they may not be able to effectively use other approaches.
We are currently researching using Tai Chi as an adjunct to traditional western medical modalities in several hospitals and rehab settings, including working with children (a demographic usually overlooked in Tai Chi classes). This information...

George W Lectures George W About Diplomatic Patience
These days we keep hearing George W remind us, "Diplomacy takes time. You have to be patient."
The question is, who is the guy talking to? We're patient. Most people we know are patient. We think he's really encouraging George W himself to partake of the virtue.
Listen to this collection of recent quotes. Is this a George on George conversation or what?
"These problems didn't rise overnight, and they don't get solved overnight"
"You know, the problem with diplomacy, it takes a while to get something done.
If you're acting alone, you can move quickly."
"It's painful in a way for some to watch because it takes a while to get people on the same page."
About time. Too bad he didn't do a George-to-George pep talk about Iraq before we got ourselves into that wreck. But better late than never. Let's just hope he listens to his own best George. .

Detainment of Anti US Slavery Advocate Postponed for Hearing
OCE's recommended 3/11/05 detainment of anti-slavery activist, Marianne LaBrecque, has been postponed pending a 4/5/05 hearing of defendant's contesting of findings.
The judge also said that it was unfair to give the defendant such little time to make arrangements to prepare to undergo 60 days of "inpatient hospitalization."
Detainment would be as a pretrial detainee at Connecticut Valley Hospital, Connecticut's facility for the "criminally insane." Ct Superior Court's Office of Court Evaluation's conclusion is that the defendant "demonstrated what appeared to be a complex delusional system regarding 'modern-day slavery, human trafficking, abductions and organized crime'... Her preoccupation with modern-day slavery and the abduction of her fianc?e, and her propensity to focus on these issues in a tangential, circumstantial manner, impairs her capacity to represent herself, to work collaboratively with an attorney, to follow testimony, and to effectively participate...

AIDS Community Organization Lifts Two-year Boycott of Abbott Laboratories
HOUSTON, TX (ContentDesk) December 10, 2005 -- The Center for AIDS Information & Advocacy, a local HIV/AIDS organization is lifting its two-year boycott of Abbott Laboratories and is resuming normal relations. The boycott was part of a broad effort across the nation by community organizations, physicians, and other groups and included refusal to attend Abbott-sponsored programs, participate in company invitational meetings, accept financial donations, and more. The efforts against Abbott also included several lawsuits, on-site protests, and even a hearing at the US Food and Drug Administration in 2004 to consider releasing ritonavirs patent. The boycott began in December 2003 in the wake of Abbotts price increase, more than 400 percent, for its HIV/AIDS drug ritonavir (Norvir). The price increase was announced by Abbott on December 3two days after World AIDS Day.
With ritonavir being an essential AIDS drug working as a booster agent for all but one of the currently marketed...

Beware of Noni Fruit Scams
Multi-level marketing companies came under a lot of fire in the 1990's and early 2000's for allowing its distributors to claim cure-all properties for noni. Governmental organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, the National Food Administration in Finland, and others have issued warnings to those distributors, forcing them to publish disclaimers about their products. Since then, the market for noni fruit products has shaped up as more people become educated about...
